Atlanta, Georgia – Tyquavious, 13, a seventh-grader at Crawford Long Middle School in southeast Atlanta, was fatally shot when he and two others were playing with a gun that discharged and hit him, police spokesman Eric Schwartz said. Steven Gentry, 20, was arrested on a murder charge.

Police recovered the gun in the apartment. It wasn’t immediately clear who owned the weapon.

Those who knew Tyquavious struggled with his death Friday.

“He had his whole life ahead of him,” said 14-year-old Richard Nash, a friend and former classmate.

Tyquavious spent part of his last evening alive playing a game similar to baseball with a large group of neighborhood boys, Quentin said.

He once lived near Fisher Road, but had moved and transferred to a different middle school, friends said. He was one of eight siblings, friends said.
