Man Shot Wife and 3 kids in their Maryland Home

Posted on April 18, 2009. Filed under: Maryland, murder-suicide |

MIDDLETOWN, Md. – A father killed his wife and their three children before fatally shooting himself in a northwest Maryland home, leaving a gruesome scene that was discovered Saturday by the youngsters’ grandfather, authorities said.

When investigators arrived, the couple’s two sons, ages 5 and 4, lay dead in their beds, while the bodies of a 2-year-old daughter and the mother, Francis Billotti Wood, were in the master bedroom of the two-story home, Frederick County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Jennifer Bailey said. On the master bedroom floor by the foot of the bed was the father, 34-year-old Christopher Alan Wood, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Bailey said.

The 33-year-old mother and three children suffered “traumatic cuts,” Bailey said, but the causes of their deaths weren’t immediately confirmed.

The woman’s father found them dead around 9 a.m. He had grown concerned after not hearing from them for several days, Bailey said.

Investigators also found a shotgun and other items they believed were used to slash the victims. Several notes were found, but authorities didn’t say what was written in them. More on Yahoo! News

Deputies Fatally Shoot Man at Truck Stop

Posted on April 18, 2009. Filed under: Florida, shot by police |

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL — Three St. Johns County deputies shot and killed a man early Saturday morning at a truck stop near County Road 206 after he pulled out a gun.

The identity of the shooting victim has not been released.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy was patrolling the Flying J Truck stop off Interstate 95 and County Road 206, when he noticed a suspicious car.

He ran the license plate and the car came back registered to 52-year-old Rodney Joseph Lasseigne, a fugitive featured on America’s Most Wanted last week in the killing of his 68-year-old mother, Juanita Gibson, in 2008.

When deputies surrounded the car, they saw a man who appeared to be sleeping under a pile of blankets.

After knocking on the car’s window, the man inside pulled out a shotgun. Investigators say he pointed the weapon at deputies. They opened fire, fatally wounding him.

Deputies have not said whether the shooting victim is both the America’s Most Wanted fugitive and the registered owner of the vehicle.

No deputies were injured, and it’s unclear if the man ever fired his weapon. More on firstcoast News
