Father shot 19-year-old son
Mamou, LA – A Mamou man has been arrested in the shooting death of his 19-year-old son. According to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Michael Scott Bushnell Jr. was found dead outside his Lanse Prien Noir Road home shortly after 10 p.m. Monday night. Michael Scott Bushnell Sr. has been charged with second degree murder and is currently being held on $500,000 bond.
Deborah Bushnell says she was on the phone with her son when he was allegedly shot and killed by her estranged husband.
“All I heard was my husband cock the 12 gauge shot gun, throw off a shot, then a second and then a third, then all I heard was dead silence,” said Bushnell.
Deborah Bushnell and her two younger children have been living in a shelter for domestic violence victims for several months. She says earlier Monday, her husband checked her younger son out of Mamou High School unplanned, and took him home and threatened him. When her husband was distracted, Bushnell says her younger son was able to escape to a neighbor’s home. Her eldest son Michael arrived home from work to his father’s house a short time later. She says her son called her asking her for help calming down his father when she heard gunshots. Deborah Bushnell says her son’s death is the culmination of years of abuse by her husband.
“I think he had planned to kill us all, because he had warned me time and time again if I didn’t come home something bad was going to happen,” said Bushnell.
Micheal Scott Bushnell Jr(19 yrs old) Is the father of My Son. I was Pregnant at the time of his Death. When i heard what had happen, I was devastated!..Never in a million years i would have thought My boyfriend, My Baby daddy, Would not be here today. To help me raise our son. It get rough knowing that one day my son will ask me where is his father. the only gift My son will have to give his Father on Fathers Day is a Flower on his Grave.
