JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – The 911 call came in as a burglary in progress on South Valley Falls Road. “One of the occupants of 922 called in, said someone was trying to break into his house,” says Jackson Police Lieutenant Jeffrey Scott. “Once police arrived, they found the deceased body of a white female, she had been shot multiple times in the living room of this house.”
Police believe the man who called 911 is the man who pulled the trigger. The victim, 49-year-old Kalia Sprayberry, lived at 918 South Valley Falls Road, next door to the house where she died.
Sprayberry had been shot four times. “She’s got gunshot wounds in her abdomen, shoulder and lower torso,” says Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart.
Police weren’t ready to say whether Mississippi’s Castle Doctrine would apply in this case. The two-year-old state law allows anyone with or without a gun license to shoot an intruder who unlawfully enters their house or dwelling. It may depend on whether the occupant’s life or property was threatened, and police have taken the alleged triggerman in for questioning to find out exactly what happened. More on WLBT.com
Man killed over suspicion of stealing money
Montgomery, Alabama – Samuel Washington Jr., 51, of 3435 Doris Circle was charged with murder in the death of Jerome Herman Adams, 45, of Hope Hull.
Both men have extensive criminal histories, and illegal narcotics were found on the ground next to the victim when officers arrived, Maj. Huey Thornton, police spokesman, said.
Washington’s criminal record includes theft- and drug-related offenses, and Adams also has faced drug charges in the past, court records show.
The killing apparently stemmed from a dispute between the two involving $200 Washington suspected Adams of stealing from his garage, Thornton said.
Officers found Adams about 5:51 p.m. Thursday lying in front of a residence in the 3400 block of Doris Circle. He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. More on Montgomery Advertiser
