Murder now the charge in Sumter baby’s death
Sumter, SC – In the wake of a 1-year-old’s death from gunshot wounds Monday, Sumter police said Tuesday the suspect they are looking for will be charged with murder.
The father, Cabrall Archie Sr., 26, who was holding the youngster, had multiple chest wounds and remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
The incident happened shortly before midnight Friday. Police said Archie Sr. was talking with an unknown person when shots were fired. The other person fled.
The incident is the second time a child has been killed by a gun in Sumter in the last six months.
Last Halloween, a Sumter man was charged with fatally shooting a 12-year-old trick-or-treater with an AK-47 assault rifle.
Quentin L. Patrick, 22, has been indicted but not yet tried on federal gun charges, court documents show.
Federal prosecutors are alleging that Patrick, who is a convicted felon, had the assault rifle, a 9 millimeter handgun and ammunition for both at his home. More on theState.com
