2 killed, 6 wounded in shooting at graduation party in Arizona
MESA, Ariz. — Two people were killed and six others — two of them children — were wounded in a shooting at a high school graduation party, police said Sunday.
A 37-year-old man was taken into custody after a four-hour standoff with police at a house in Mesa, east of Phoenix, Mesa Police Sgt. Ed Wessing said.
Preliminary information indicated that the suspect was an invited guest at the party who got into a physical fight with his ex-wife late Saturday, Wessing said.
The suspect allegedly went to his vehicle, got a gun, returned to the party and opened fire, killing his 38-year-old ex-wife and a 32-year-old man, Wessing said.
He said six others had minor injuries. They included a 10-year-old boy who was grazed on the head and an 8-year-old boy injured by bullet fragments. More on whotv.com

PISGAH, Alabama – A shooting death at a home in northeast Alabama is under investigation.
The Jackson County sheriff’s office said 28-year-old Jason Frederick Brown died in a shooting Tuesday night at his home on Alabama 71.

Myrtle Beach, SC – A 24-year-old Conway man was charged with shooting his estranged wife’s boyfriend to death in front of her two children at her townhouse in the Forestbrook area.
Jeffrey Todd Horan forced his way into the unit, walked to a back room and shot Hubert James Aland, according to a police report. Aland, 30, was shot multiple times and died in the 8:40 a.m. incident at Bahama Bay Villas on 950 Forestbrook Road, said Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County Police Department.
The shooting was the latest in a string of incidents involving Horan and his estranged wife, according to police and court records.
Three weeks earlier, Horan was arrested for breaking into the home of Tashana Cameron, his estranged wife, confronting her about her “new boyfriend” and assaulting her, according to a police report. More on TheSunNews.com

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lesley Peters said deputies have booked 22-year-old Toby Gray with second-degree murder. She said Gray knew the victim, 37-year-old Raquel Barrios, for about two to three weeks.

GALLUP, New Mexico – A 46-year-old man has been arraigned on an open count of murder in the shooting death of his adult son at a mobile home north of Gallup.
Mark Krueger pleaded not guilty Wednesday and Magistrate Henrietta Soland set his bond at $100,000 cash.
Krueger is being held at the Gallup-McKinley Adult Detention Center.
Investigators say Krueger and his son, Solomon Krueger, were arguing yesterday when the elder Krueger allegedly fired one shot from a pistol, striking his son in the head. The son died this morning at a hospital in Gallup. More on KOB.com

KALISPELL, Mont. – Kalispell police say an 11-year-old boy has been arrested in the shooting death of his father.
Officials say Patrick Gretsch was shot in the chest with a 20-gauge shotgun at his residence at about 6 p.m. Monday.
Police Chief Roger Nasset says an investigation revealed that a domestic disturbance was occurring between Gretsch and another adult and the boy fired two rounds from a 20-gauge shotgun, one into the ceiling and the second at his father. More on KXMC.com

Tampico, IN – A family fight over dogs led to the shooting death of a rural Tampico man Saturday and the arrest of his son for his murder, according to Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
Receiving three reports of an injured man at 11 p.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officers went to the home of John Shoultz, 48, at 7865 S. State Road 39 south of Tampico and found him dead from gunshot wounds.
A short time later, his son, John A. Shoultz III, 20, was stopped by Jennings County police as he and his girlfriend, Andrea D. Howard, 19, of Crothersville, were driving east on U.S. 50 in North Vernon.
He and his Dad were arguing over dogs in the house,” Lahrman said of the suspect and incident that led to the shooting. Lahrman said the older Shoultz was shot at least three times by a large caliber handgun. More on Crothersville Times

BARTLETT, TN –16 year-old Torrence Yarbrough is now charged with reckless homicide in the shooting death of his 12 year-old cousin.
Twelve year-old Brandon House was shot Saturday, May 2, 2009, at a family member’s home in Bartlett. Police say House was looking at a gun, when Yarbrough went to grab it back. Cops say that’s when the gun went off.
Shelby County Juvenile Court officials confirm that Yarbrough has been arrested before.n December 2008, he was arrested for having a gun on a school campus. He has also been charged in the past for having marijuana and for trespassing. More on My Eyewitness news

Jasper County, Texas – The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department tells KFDM News it’s investigating the shooting death of a 12 year old boy.
Chief Deputy Ralph Nichols says the sheriff’s office received a 9-1-1 call at about 4 p.m. Thursday from someone reporting that a 12 year old boy had been shot in the head with a 20 gauge shotgun.
It happened at a home on Walton Drive in Cougar Country near Buna.
Nichols says the sheriff’s office is still investigating the details surrounding the death. More on KFDM

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police have arrested a shooting victim’s brother for his death and for injuries to a second person.
20-year old Ronzy Echols has been charged with Reckless Homicide for the shooting death of his brother, 26-year old Terry Echols.
The incident occurred April 29, 2009 on the 1200-block of Turkey Run in South Memphis.
According to Memphis Police, Terry and another teen where involved in some sort of physical altercation. Ronzy fired his weapon, presumably to break up the fight.

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Honolulu police on Thursday charged a man with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a defense attorney at his Kailua home.Police arrested Daniel Kahanaoi, 45, shortly after Tuesday night’s shooting at his home in the Ahuimanu area in Kaneohe.
Kahanaoi shot attorney Craig Kimsel twice, in the neck and the back, according to court records.
Police said they believe the shooting may have stemmed from a jealous rage over an ex-girlfriend. Rusty Anoba said she was hiding from Kahanaoi at Kimsel’s home on Oneawa Street that night.
Anoba was once Kimsel’s client and girlfriend.
Both Anoba and Kimsel had separate restraining orders against Kahanaoi prior to the shooting. More on KITV.com

EL PASO, Texas — Las Cruces police arrested a man they accuse in the shooting death of 19-year-old Noel Brown Tuesday morning. Police found Brown lying on a bed with a gunshot wound to her stomach. She was taken to Mountain View Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Christopher Michael Mata, 21, told detectives that he and Brown were drinking and having a barbeque at her apartment Monday evening. Mata said they went back to his house and were getting into bed when a loaded weapon that he keeps nearby fired, striking, Brown said police. More on Kfoxtv.com

PURVIS, Mississippi – A 51-year-old Lamar County woman has been arrested in connection to the death of her husband.County Deputy Coroner Philip Carlan says 44-year-old James Daniel Kendrick suffered “massive internal injuries due to gunshot wounds” resulting in his death Saturday.
Carlan said Kendrick’s body was transported to Jackson for an autopsy.

Portland, Maine – Ross Morrill, 22, was arrested by detectives and charged with murder on Saturday afternoon.
Morrill’s father, 55-year-old Robert Morrill, was shot in front of his home on Hopper Road at about 3 p.m. He died shortly after arriving at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
The younger Morrill was taken to the state police barracks in Alfred for questioning following the shooting and was charged there before being transported to the York County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
The shooting was reported by the victim’s wife and mother of the accused, Vickie Morrill.

CRESTVIEW, Fla. – Two north Florida sheriff’s deputies were fatally shot at a shooting range by a suspect who was later killed in an exchange of gunfire with deputies after he fled across the county line, authorities said.
The incident began shortly after 10 a.m. when the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center notified the sheriff’s office that Cartwright’s wife said she had been beaten by her husband, according to a timeline released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the sheriff’s office.
The two deputies found Cartwright at the shooting range and began trying to arrest him shortly before 1 p.m., but they reported that he was refusing to cooperate with their attempts to handcuff him.
At 12:51 p.m. dispatchers received a call that an officer had been hit and began their search for Cartwright, who had left the shooting range in his truck.
Deputies shot and killed Cartwright around 1:10 p.m.
Cartwright had been arrested in November on a charge of domestic battery against his wife, Elizabeth Marie Cartwright, 21, and that the charge was still pending. More on Yahoo! news

Dallas, Texas – A 42-year-old Midlothian man was fatally shot Friday night, Arlington police said.
Rodney Kennedy was in his ex-wife’s home when he was shot by his former father-in-law, 67, police said. The shooting happened at 10 p.m. during an altercation, according to reports.

Mamou, LA – A Mamou man has been arrested in the shooting death of his 19-year-old son. According to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Michael Scott Bushnell Jr. was found dead outside his Lanse Prien Noir Road home shortly after 10 p.m. Monday night. Michael Scott Bushnell Sr. has been charged with second degree murder and is currently being held on $500,000 bond.
Deborah Bushnell says she was on the phone with her son when he was allegedly shot and killed by her estranged husband.
“All I heard was my husband cock the 12 gauge shot gun, throw off a shot, then a second and then a third, then all I heard was dead silence,” said Bushnell.
Deborah Bushnell and her two younger children have been living in a shelter for domestic violence victims for several months. She says earlier Monday, her husband checked her younger son out of Mamou High School unplanned, and took him home and threatened him. When her husband was distracted, Bushnell says her younger son was able to escape to a neighbor’s home. Her eldest son Michael arrived home from work to his father’s house a short time later. She says her son called her asking her for help calming down his father when she heard gunshots. Deborah Bushnell says her son’s death is the culmination of years of abuse by her husband.
“I think he had planned to kill us all, because he had warned me time and time again if I didn’t come home something bad was going to happen,” said Bushnell.

Denham Springs, LA – A 49-year-old woman allegedly shot and killed her 26-year-old boyfriend in self defense early this morning in Denham Springs.
Livingston Parish emergency dispatchers received a call around 2:22 a.m. from a woman who said she had shot her boyfriend at her home, 30891 Lilac St., Denham Springs, said Jason Ard, a spokesman for the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Mark Lockwood, 26, was dead at the scene when deputies arrived, having been shot once in the chest, Ard said.
The woman, Suzanne White, 49, told investigators Lockwood had put a knife to her throat demanding she tell him the location of the gun, Ard said. She convinced him to remove the knife from her throat, but he was still holding it when she reached the gun first and shot him. More on 2theAdvocate.com
